Welcome to my first ever blog posting!
I’ve had a look at many other blogs, mostly around food, and poultry keeping, and they all seem to have so much to say. And they all seem very confident.
Maybe that comes with time….I’m still experimenting with my preserving; I think I always will be, and I don’t claim to have all the answers. However, I can offer what I’ve learned and I hope to learn from you too.
I also need to learn to take beautiful photographs. They seem to be a feature of the most interesting blogs. Could be challenging, as I deal in the most mundane things – everyday fruits and vegetables, eggs, and lots of vinegar, spices, honey and sugar. And yet……they turn into beautiful jewel-coloured jars. Raspberry Conserve, the deepest ruby, Lemon Curd of an intense yellow, and Piccallilli, in an elegant mustard colour with bottle-green, cream and red flecks.
Recently I have started supplying a craft baker, Alex Poulter at East Bristol Bakery in St Mark’s Road, Bristol. Alex makes the most fantastic bread, and it’s not dear. I came home on Saturday with 4 loaves. Within an hour two of them had been eaten by my two grown-up children, just with butter. The bread didn’t need anything else.
I discovered how Alex makes the beautiful patterns on his sourdough loaves. More of that in another post.
